Men’s Ministry
Committee Members – Douglas Galbraith, Alan Guy, Alastair Holden, Chris Mackison, Matthew McKinnon, Ken McPhail, Scott Thompson and Ian Watson
Programme for March 2009 – February 2010
- Two breakfasts, one with Martin Allen in April looked at the subject of prayer, and another in September, with Edwin Gunn who addressed the subject of spiritual warfare.
- Two Evangelistic Dinners, one with Jamie Kidd of Avanti Ministries in April and one with Colin McKerracher of Grampian Police in October. These dinners attracted 120 – 140 men.
- Three Sporting Events, a five-a-side football tournament attracting around 60 men, (many non Christians) at which Christian literature was distributed; a white water rafting event run by Christian Men Together, which attracted 48 men (two rafts from Greenview) and raised £4165.00 for Youth for Christ’s ‘kick pitch’ project in Scotland, and UFM’s AIDS awareness programme in Papua. There was also a Golf outing greatly enjoyed by twelve men at Kingussie.
- One Outing – There was an outing to the Clyde Coast for retired men in May, which was an excellent, especially the visit to the new Nardini’s in Largs!
- One Conference – theCommission event in February with Ian Coffey and Robin Mark was an inspiring day, with large numbers attending, but so far, not so many from Greenview. Five hundred men singing God’s praise in the heart of Glasgow was tremendous.
- One Readathon of the New Testament, which was a real blessing to all who took part, and all who came to listen. Congratulations to those who were there for the full 18 hours!
Christian Men Together arranged a local Evangelism Training Day and an Evangelistic event with Tony Anthony in the Couper Institute, and also a ‘Wild at Heart’ course for men, at Trinity Church of Scotland, run by Mark Cameron. Thanks to all who supported these initiatives.
Other men’s activities, not organised by the Men’s Committee, continue, such as the men’s football team, Bible study groups and the ministry of Father’s Song.
What did we achieve?
Eternity will give a full answer to that question, but we can say that men were encouraged in their prayer life, strengthened for life’s spiritual battles and equipped for evangelism.
Many heard the gospel through word of mouth and tracts, one or two are now attending Church after an absence of some years, and lots of men enjoyed just the sheer fun and challenge of the sports/adventure days. Scottish and Papua children were blessed through the fundraising event, some improved their sporting skills and physical fitness? Through the Tony Anthony tour many came to know Christ. Praise the Lord!
